Supplied to Henlys, London (despatched April 14th, 1961) as a steel-bodied roadster. Sold to Coombs of Guilford as a demonstrator. In debut race at Oulton Park Roy Salvadori placed 3rd.
Car became works development car and increasingly prepared by works. Norbury Cup at Crystal Palace, Salvadori, 1st Place. Peco Trophy, Brands Hatch, Salvadori, 2nd place. Silverstone, Salvadori, 5th place. British GP meeting, Aintree, Sears, 2nd. Scott-Brown Trophy, Snetterton, Salvadori, 2nd. Peco Trophy, Brands Hatch, Salvadori, 3rd. Molyslip Trophy, Snetterton, Salvadori, 2nd.
In 1962: Oulton Park, Graham Hill, 2nd. Easter Goodwood, crashed heavily by Salvadori, rebuilt with lighter-gauge steel body. Silverstone, Hill, 3rd. Mallory Park, Hill, 2nd. TT, August Bank Holiday Brands Hatch, Hill, 5th. Goodwood, Salvadori, 4th.
In the winter of 1962/63 became prototype for Lightweight E-Type, extensively rebuilt with many modifications, principally aluminum shell and aluminum block engine. Snetterton, Hill, 1st. Car homologated under Appendix J. Sussex Trophy, Goodwood, Hill, 1st. Loton Park, MacDowel, 1st in class. Daily Express Silverstone, Hill, 1st. Grovewood Trophy, Mallory Park, Hill, 1st. British GP meeting, Salmon, 3rd in GT class. TT, Goodwood, Sears, 4th.
1964: Daily Express Silverstone, practised by Jack Brabham, raced by Dan Gurney, 8th (?). Pontin Trophy, Crystal Palace, Jackie Stewart, 1st. British GP meeting, Brands Hatch, Stewart, 2nd.
Sold to Charles Bridges, Red Rose Racing. Raced by Brian Redman, many successes: 21 first places, 1 second (to a 250LM Ferrari) and 5 club circuit records; launched Redman's career. Sold to Gordon Brown.
1994 crashed heavily during Silverstone demonstration; in 1995 being repaired by John Pearson with monocoque repaired rather than sections replaced. Gordon Brown (Preston, Lancashire, UK).
Lo dicho, una joya de la historia de Jaguar, y como suena ........
